KRIS HALLS

Kris Halls has degrees in counselling, clinical supervision and mental health. She is a PACFA licenced clinical counsellor (# 24778)[1].

She has many years of experience working in the field of clinical and mental health. Her interests relate to understanding and helping people who have experienced trauma, self-esteem issues, grief and loss. Specifically, she has been involved in the treatment of children and adults who have been subject to various types of traumatic acute and chronic abuse. Abuse may lead to anxiety, depression, relationship and self-worth issues, for example. Traumatic events have been shown to have life-long consequences[2]. These events often lead to poor quality of life and health-related conditions. Kris assists clients in developing strategies and implementing solutions to address these challenges.

Over many years Kris has worked in a variety of positions in Western Australia. Recently Kris spent 4 years living and working in the Middle East, specifically in Muscat, Oman.  There she was working with people of different races, ethnic origins and faiths who despite this diversity, were experiencing difficulties covering a range of mental health and relationship-related issues.

Kris is a pragmatic, empathetic professional who brings to the therapeutic environment a person-centred and solution-focused approach to psychological wellness and well-being. She uses a range of psychotherapeutic tools, such as cognitive-behaviour therapy, mindfulness training and stress management, to assist people to resolve difficult challenges they may be facing in their lives.

Her underlying philosophy is one based upon a humanistic and holistic approach. She is a passionate advocate of mind-body integration. Overall, Kris provides a safe, secure and empathetic professional environment that facilitates change and healing.

OUR SERVICES

Here’s What We Provide

We provide the opportunity to work with a professionally trained counsellor/psychotherapist who can offer support, strategies and new perspectives on your issues. The main steps in the counselling process are:

•   To help clarify the issue

•   To identify options open to you in the situation

•   To work out what you hope to achieve

•   Identify ways to achieve this goal

•   Provide support as you work towards your goal.

While counselling/therapy is not a magic cure, it can clarify problems and help in their resolution.   It will also provide structure and support for you in painful and difficult times.

Important note

The  Implementation of the National Code of Conduct for health care workers (National Code) in Western Australia has progressed another step closer, with the passing of the Health and Disability Services (Complaints) Amendment Act 2022 by the Western Australian Parliament on 28 October 2022.

HaDSCO ( https://www.hadsco.wa.gov.au/About-Us/Who-We-Are) will have the responsibility to implement the National Code of Conduct for health care workers through receiving complaints, undertaking investigations and issuing Prohibition Orders when necessary, with implementation expected to occur by early 2023.

The National Code will apply to individuals providing a health service who are not otherwise included in the 16 health professions that are currently regulated by the National Registration Accreditation Scheme (NRAS), or who provide services unrelated to their registration.

This can include counsellors, dieticians, doulas, kinesiologists, massage therapists, naturopaths, nutritionists, psychotherapists, reiki practitioners, social workers, speech pathologists and other allied, alternative and community health services.

The National Code was agreed by the former Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Health Council and contains 17 clauses as standards of conduct that such types of health care workers will be required to comply with.

Therefore, Belmont and Byford Counselling will undertake compliance with these standards (where and when applicable) and will:

  • Provide services in a safe and ethical manner, including not providing health care of a type outside of their experience or training or services they are not qualified to provide

  • Not make claims to cure certain illnesses

  • Not financially exploit clients

  • Not engage in sexual misconduct or improper personal relationships with a client

  • Be covered by appropriate professional indemnity insurance, and

  • Display the code clauses and information about how to make a complaint.
